CLIVE PILLAY

Clive is a seasoned business veteran who has during the course of his 27-year career, been fortunate to have extensively traveled and worked in South Africa, Mauritius, across most of the African continent, the Middle East as well as many other parts of the world. In his multiple roles both in senior management and as a Board member, Clive primarily focused on being a strategist and business developer. His specialised Africa experience in more than 22 African markets has provided him a unique opportunity in developing a network of relationships which has been an invaluable asset in expanding business across the continent (this included South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Mauritius, Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Seychelles, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire and Burkina Faso). This network was later expanded into the electrical high voltage and renewable energy sectors when Clive was the Chief Commercial Officer of a JSE listed Infrastructure firm, during which time he honed his specialisation for developing projects soliciting commercial and DFI funding.

His stakeholder-centric approach is key to his strategy of building long-term sustainable partnerships which he has successfully employed servicing customers in the Construction, Engineering, Utilities, Production, Manufacturing, Mining, Information Technology (ICT), Transportation, State-Owned Enterprises as well as National and Provincial Government departments in both South Africa and the rest of the continent. Having successfully built a construction start-up, Clive is no stranger to the challenges of small businesses on the continent. His past engagements have also included advisory services to local and national African governments supporting large-scale public infrastructure projects in the transportation, energy and other urban growth sectors.

In addition to his practical operational experience, Clive is also a Certified Director® with the Institute of Directors of South Africa, a Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors as well as a member of the Institute of Directors in the UK. With a combined Board experience of more than 35 years servicing multiple boards across the African continent, he is also an expert in Corporate Governance and a champion for good corporate citizenship. Amongst his many academic achievements, Clive holds a commerce degree from the University of South Africa as well as an MBA with the Wits Business School.
